Tarifa is one of the most populars kite spots with constant and convenient conditions in Europe. What is more beautiful than in the summer with temperatures around 30 degrees and 95% windy days and with an spectacular view to Marocco to learn kite surfing.

During the main summer season (from around July to the middle of September), the beaches are separated into swimming, sunbathing, kitesurf, kite learning zones. Any other time, you can kite on any part of the beaches without restrictions. The conditions for a downwinder are perfect at this time of the year and a session or two could be arranged.

In Tarifa, on Spain, there are different classes of winds. The best known are the levante and the poniente.

The levante is a strong, warm wind from the east. It can work itself up to a wind speed of 8 after a few days, but is usually around 6-7.

The poniente is the best wind for kite surfers. It blows at a wind speed of about 6 from the west onshore side to the city beach and is a little cooler than the levante. Thanks to this wind, the temperature in Tarifa stays pretty nice in the middle of the summer. A little farther out to sea, it carries small swells with it.

Depending on the wind force, the protected bay provides optimum instruction conditions for all skills levels. The shorebreak may be slightly stronger only in autumn, if the wind is onshore (poniente). Kitesurf Beginners' instruction depends on wind conditions and may not always be possible. In November and December the kitesurfing classes is possible to take.

Kitecenter

 The Bull Kite School is in the middle of Tarifa. The kite school is part of a kite factory and a kite store where the school gets its equipment, which is quite comfortable for the students because they can buy the same equipment with which they have learned to kite surf.
The school is open during the whole year. During the summer month it is better to book a course early enough, just to ensure that not all courses are booked out.

Activities

There are plenty of excursions and tours in Tarifa for those rare light wind days; the mountains behind can be explored on horseback or by bike. Also there is a good dive centre, climbing, surfing and hang gliding. If you want to visit another continent then try a day trip to Morocco. A definite must is a whale-watching trip in the Straits of Gibraltar, excursions to Andalusian cities and towns such as Seville, Ronda, Jerez and Cadiz, culinary offerings spanning the entire gamut, from tapas bars to gourmet restaurants, and party, party, party…There are several boats that depart from Tarifa, and sightings of dolphins and pilot whales are guaranteed or you are offered a repeat trip! Other marine visitors to these rich feeding grounds are sperm whales, fin whales and orcas. Don't forget your camera!
